Tous les ans, le deuxième week-end de mai, des milliers de festivaliers viennent profiter de l’ambiance des férias du Sud-Ouest au Festival de Bandas y Peñas. Ce festival met à l’honneur ces formations musicales de cuivres, qui animent pendant trois jours les rues de la ville en « rouge et blanc ».

Flower market // Fourcès

Every year on the last weekend of April, Fourcès is adorned with thousands of flowers.  More than 75 exhibitors transform this picturesque circular village into a magnificent and sumptuous floral composition that makes this market the biggest flower market in the Southwest.  The thousands of visitors come from far afield every year are always captivated by this magical event that the papers describe as an ‘unrivalled’ horticultural fair’.

Summer Tuesdays // Condom

The summer rhythm is enhanced on Tuesdays when visitors can enjoy a range of street entertainments during the day, conferences about the local history, a gourmet market to discover the local products and savoir-faire with the possibility of dining on site, organ concerts in the Cathedral followed by a guided visit of the Cathedral city. The evenings highlight is a theatrical play in the town’s emblematic cloisters put on by a local troupe, La Boîte à Jouer.  

Vesperals

Organised by the ‘Amis de l’Orgue’ (Friends of the Organ), this event celebrates the Saint Pierre Cathedral organ that’s particularity is that its sound is like that of the nightingale’s song.  The Vesperals offer a programme of concerts in the summer (Summer Tuesdays) and in the autumn when the organ accompanies voices, brass bands and panpipes.

These events offer visitors a selection of varied shows in the north of the Gers department: lyrical concerts, operas, orchestras, recitals and dance that enchant an ever-growing audience to the richly historic and popular heritage sites of Abbaye de Flaran and the Condom cloisters.

World championship of palet Gascon // Condom

On 15th August, in the hamlet of Lialores in Condom, the world championship of the traditional Gascon game, le Palet Gascon is organised.  Every year, 120 competitors compete for the title of world champion.  Casual or regular players, it is a match open to all, men, women and children.  During these 3 days of fete, the championship for the best « homemade pâté » and the traditional poule-au-pot meal maintain the traditions of Gascony.

Biogascogne fair (Organics) // Condom

The ecological association ‘Convergence écologique Condom-Ténarèze’organises its Biogascogne fair in the cloisters and on the Place Saint-Pierre once a year.  Some 80 exhibitors with a common philosophy share their conception of ‘Organic’ through forums-conferences, film screenings, organic southwest wines competition and a wholly organic catering service on site.  Plenty of activities for adults and children make this an animated event for all the family.

Medieval evenings // Montréal du Gers

The village organises two not to be missed evenings on the theme of the Middle Ages in the heart of the Montréal Bastide.  The association invites us to relive the medieval atmosphere where you are immersed into a universe of yesteryear at the hub of the bastide. Numerous free performances including fire eating, falconry, demonstrations of ancient crafts, games, dances, craftsmen, exhibitors…  Each year, the ‘medieval evenings’ are a great success as the thousands of meals served bear witness.

The Flamme de l’Armagnac

From October to January, the producers from the « Tenarèze- Armagnac » appellation live to the rhythm of the Gers tradition known as the Flamme de l’Armagnac.  During this period, the Armagnac alambics that distil the future Armagnac eaux-de-vie attract lots of curious visitors wanting to learn all about the distillation and how the alambic works.  Visits to estates, cellars and châteaux, meals around the alambic, concerts and even guided walks add to the friendly and traditional atmosphere during this important time of distillation.
